For several decades I have felt our country has been on a downward spiral. I remember when Barack Obama was first elected. I didn’t vote for him, but whenever any president first comes to office, I have high hopes. I believe that shortly after President Obama came into power, he did a few things I liked (for example, if I remember correctly, he did some things to put a limit on how much influence lobbyists had). But it didn’t take long for me to see that many of my worries about his political agenda were coming true.
When President Obama first came into power, the Democrates had control of both House and Senate. They had the power to get a lot done… And they did, but 8 years later, it seems that most of what was done goes opposite of Gods word.
Now the roles are reversed. Donald Trump, a Republican, has been elected President. Both houses are controlled by Republicans. Once again, things are in place for lots of changes to take place.
In 2nd Chronicles 7:14, God tells his people to humble themselves. To pray. And if they do so, he will heal their land. That was a promise made directly to the people of Israel. It is not a promise to us today, but it did establish a principle… Many times throughout history, when people have humbled themselves and turned to God, there has been great revival in their land.
Let us pray that this time is not squandered. Our country has been “wandering” for many decades. In 2008, God allowed the democratic party to have control. It was their chance to put our country on the right course… Now the Republicans have been given that same opportunity. I prayed for President Obama while he was in office, and I will be praying for President Trump, but let us remember we are praying FOR, and not TO these men.
It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.
Pay FOR our leaders, but remember to put your trust in God.
